Parque Biológico de Vinhais: wake up with Nature

Parque Biológico de Vinhais, located on the mountain, 4,5km from the centre of the village with the same name, transports us into the Nature and invites visitor to practice adventure sports, observe the animals that exist there and, if possible, spend a night in one of the inviting cabins or bungallows.

Parque Biológico de Vinhais surrounding environment

I had the pleasure of experiencing a night in one of the cabins (also called POD’s or capsules) and, besides the comfort and the thrill of sleeping in Montesinho Nature Park, I noticed the excellent quality of the service and the impeccable cleanliness. The staff of the park, especially the reception and the bar, are extremely friendly, and I could see their concern for the welfare of the customer, being guests or simple visitors. During the night, the silence is calm and restorative, due to the distance of the village and the proximity to Nature, being only occasionally interrupted by the hooting of an owl.

Inside the cabins, guests have a comfortable double bed with an extra blanket for colder nights. However, if you don’t like so much to sleep and you prefer to make the most of the place, each cabin has a television, a small extendable table, a sofa, a kitchenette (equipped with different types of dishes, stove and refrigerator), air conditioning and a small terrace, outside, with a table and two chair, that makes the perfect connection between the contemporary cabin and the pure Nature of Montesinho. The space is exceptionally well taken advantage of, not missing a bathroom, with shower and bath towels. Before making your trip, don’t forget to bring the necessary hygiene products, as there are only hand soap and dishwashing detergent.

The landscape is one more of the place attributes, just opening the door of the cabin to face the magnificent mountain landscape and the natural pool, surround by imposing, tall and green cedars. Although I recommend a departure from the internet and social networks (so that you enjoy a more relaxing holiday, away from the everyday life stress, the park provides good wi-fi coverage to its guests. The mobile network is a bit weak, although existent, at least in the cabins area.

The accommodation doesn’t offer breakfast, but there is a bar with delicious croissants, rice cakes and muffins, ice cream and drinks, such as water, natural juices, coffee and tea, or even a toast of fresh bread. Prices are incredibly low and captivating to enjoy a great snack or, under pre-ordering, a full meal. It is still possibe to eat sandwiches at very reasonable prices.

The activities offered by the park are diverse, such as horse riding (with requested reservation), adventure sports and the swimming pool, and they will surely guarantee you an unforgettable stay. Lastly, don’t leave the park without visiting the many autochthonous animals that there are, like foxes, kites, donkeys, deer and roe deer, wild boars, chickens, cows and sheep, and Centro Micológico and Centro Interpretativo das Raças Autóctones Portuguesas, to better understand the ecosystem present in Vinhais and in the whole Trás-os-Montes region, as well as throughout the country.

If you like taking photographs, you will have plenty of reasons to bring your camera and record beautiful moments, such as the sunrise and the wildlife.

The prices for reserving one night there, in one of the four cabins, can change over the course of the year, but they are around 60€, making the price-quality ratio very attractive.
