Casas da Lupa: the sea silence

Hidden in the midst of a fragrant grove, Casas da Lupa is the unprecedented name given to a rural tourism property that houses eleven carefully decorated rooms, among which four are called master suites, whose wonderful ambience I had the pleasure of enjoying in a stay of two nights. This small paradise is located 8km from Zambujeira do Mar (having a privileged view of sea), 17km from Odemira and 18km from Odeceixe, being also very close to the place that, every year, on the beginning of August, hosts MEO Sudoeste Festival (MSW).

The service, besides delicate, is characterized by the proximity that the manager (Mrs Conceição Branco) and the marketing manager (Mrs Bárbara Rodrigues) demonstrate with all the guests: it is to be noticed that, upon arrival, after having been received with all the affection, we came across two small but pleasant chocolates made by Mrs Conceição.

Inside each master suite, you can find a fireplace, a ceiling fan, a sound system, a kitchenette (equipped with a small refrigerator, a bottle of water, a kettle, some infusions and fresh apples), an armchair and sofas. In the bathroom, there are bath towels and toiletries and, in the private courtyard, you can cool off in a small pool, about 50cm deep, sunbathe, resting on a sun lounger, or stroll through the natural surrounding

In the garden, you can swim in the large (deeper) pool, and relax on the canopy bed erected in the edge, by the water. The cleanliness of the rooms is remarkably maintained, with no traces of dirt anywhere, even with the strong natural influence that surrounds them. This natural influence, muffling the minimum noise of a distant road, provides a singular stillness that almost allows the hearing of the beautiful and sparkling stars that hover over the property in the most clear sky nights.

This is the ideal accommodation for a romantic getaway and each master suite has a reasonable price, ranging from 140€ to 175€ per night (when booked online, depending on the time of the year), perfectly fitting the quality of the facilities and the service, as well as the local gastronomy.

The breakfast, from 9:30am to 1:00pm, is very well served and pleasant (homemade cake, cheese, ham, chorizos, fruit of different origins, nuts and seeds, sauces and jams, bread, curd, tea, coffee and three types of natural juices), especially in the company of the meek cat which walks in the garden. It’s also possible to eat on-site meals (previous booking compulsory), at very reasonable prices.

If you are not happy enough with just two pools, you can venture out on a bike ride (rented on the property) through the surrounding area. If you are tired of seeing the sea from afar, you can choose to approach it by visiting Cape Sardão Lighthouse (15km), Zambujeira do Mar Beach (8km), Tonel Beach (10km), Almograve Beache (20km), Furnas Beach in Vila Nova de Milfontes (24km) or, as a warmer option, to the south, Odeceixe Beach (20km).

Beaches and landscapes of the region

However, I’m sure you won’t need to stray too far (or anything), because the place has a unique beauty which will call for your attention since the first moment.
