Coimbra

From Mondego banks to the hill where’s located the University, Coimbra rises beautiful and imposing. Its origins date back as far back as the Romans, when the villa of Conímbriga was built. After visiting the University and the famous Joanina Library, it is compulsory to go down the hill and visit the Old Cathedral, a Romanesque style building. Continuing going down, it’s possible to see the Comércio Square and, a little further on, Santa Cruz Church and the Town Hall. The best way to finish the day is watching a beautiful sunset by the river and, after the lights come on and the night takes place in the city, cross the river and contemplate San Francisco Convent and the architecture of the two Santa Clara convents: a-Velha and a-Nova.
